Medical fasting - an opportunity to be reborn in the body

To be born again as it is usually described in religion describes the next incarnation of the soul in the next body.

To be ‘born again’ through medical and spiritual fasting is a new and primal experience of physical and spiritual presence in the current human body and spirit as we have not experienced before.

Some of us were interested and learned, some of us had already experimented with one or more of the different methods of medicine for detoxification. There are many methods: juice diet, diets based on one food (watermelon, grapes, dates, cabbage) and only one for a period of time (Mono Diet), rice diet, uncooked food, macrobiotics, various powders, types of tea and more…

Some of us have heard, learned and experienced an ancient and effective method for the treatment of combined disease states: physiological, emotional and mental, a method based on complete avoidance of food, juices and powders and includes drinking only pure water.

A personal story of intermittent fasts

Until the age of 17, my diet was mainly based on animal food, plenty of processed food and sweets, very little fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds.
During my teenage years I suffered from indigestion, long and frustrating sessions in the bathroom (constipation), bloating, gas, pain and discomfort that accompanied me at every moment.

At the age of 17 I changed my approach to a vegetarian diet and the digestive disorders continued. Any attempt at a deep practice of yoga and meditation becomes more difficult and complex. After the first experience of medical and spiritual fasting for about 6 days, these were the days when for the first time in my life I did not eat anything. The benefit from this for me was beyond all expectation and imagination. Above and beyond the feelings of inner cleanliness and lightness, the experience was burned into my consciousness as an adult, negative habits of behavior and consumption were released from me to a large extent and new and positive patterns began to be assimilated and find their place in my body and spiritual being. I felt a change from end to end. Years of waste and physical sediment have been released.

Since then, I have experimented with dozens of medical and spiritual fasts, from one day a week to 21 days in a row, water fasts in general. It is difficult to describe in words the insights and benefit of every day spent in each of them.

Emotional Eating

Most people consume too much food and substances that are not considered to be nutritious sources of nutrition for the human body. The main reason for this is not physiological, since the body does its best to get rid of these substances as quickly as possible and creatively compensates for the malnutrition in which it is found. The main reason for excessive consumption of food of any kind is emotional, we consume food that is not worthy of us out of need and emotional needs, with an uncontrollable and insatiable lust. We lack knowledge and instructions for making the change, and even if we have information we are unable to implement it, literally. The comfort zone of fixed habits is difficult to change.

The purposes of the medical and spiritual fast

The primary and most basic goal of any medical and spiritual fast and the most important achievement is expressed in restoring a person’s emotional control over his relationship with food and his negative habits. Achieving this goal is accomplished both through the biochemical changes in the brain and body and through the emotional and mental changes that are released and reshaped during the fast. The changes in the body include increasing the production of receptors for neurotransmitters (dopamine, serotonin), reducing the tolerance created over the years and increasing their sensitivity. Changes also occur in the mucous membranes of the digestive system, thus, the ability to absorb food and its components improves. The combination between the improvement in body functions with the emotional understandings and spiritual “Though a man defeat in battle, a thousand men a thousand times, still,
The greatest conqueror of all is he who conquers himself” (Buddha)..

Spiritual fasting in the light of tradition

Fasting for spiritual purposes and physical purity is an inseparable part of most religions and spiritual-philosophical schools in the entire world. Most of the religious fasts are short fasts of only a few hours to a few days, due to their short duration, in some of them there is also a prohibition of drinking water and other liquids. These water fasts differ in their approach and purpose from each other, but, as a guiding principle, it can be said that what they have in common is the emphasis on being a springboard for study, practice, spiritual empowerment and connection, deeper and more meaningful for those who experience them.

Judaism

The people who are an example: Moses fasted on Mount Sinai, Elijah the prophet and King David fasted for 40 days and many others. On special holidays and days of Zion: Yom Kippur (Judgment Day) Tisha B’Av (the day of the destruction of Jerusalem and the two temples) fast for 24 hours without food and liquids. In addition, there are four short fasts from sunrise to sunset on Purim (the fast of Esther), the remembrance of the siege of Jerusalem (17th of Tammuz), the fast of Gedaliah and 6th of Tevet.

The Hebrews of Dimona

Their way of life is based on the laws of the Torah and according to the traditions of the Sages, they fast on Shabbat as a rest for the digestive system in addition to rest from other daily activities. It is customary for them to fast once every three months at the change of seasons for 24 hours.

Christianity

Jesus and his disciples fasted (40 days) as written in the ‘Sermon on the Mount’ section. The Sermon on the Mount is a passage in which things are quoted that, according to the narrator, Jesus delivered to his believers. The sermon is quoted in the first composition of the New Testament, the Gospel according to Matthew. In this sermon Jesus asks his first disciples to fast. In addition, he asks his students to observe the fast in secret, according to the New Testament, a person who presents himself as suffering during fasting is a hypocrite, while those who fast in secret will be rewarded. Today in Catholic and Orthodox Christianity it is customary to refrain from eating meat for 40 days before Easter, as a reminder of Jesus’ fast (40 days). In another stream of Christianity in Ethiopia, it is customary to eat only vegan food during those 40 days. (Fasting Food).

Islam

Ramadan (from sunrise to sunset, without food and water).

Buddhism

Fasting from sunset to sunrise to improve meditation and health.

North American cultures

In the stream called “The Red Road” among the members of the Lakotas tribe (Los Lakotas) it is customary to fast every year for a number of days (4) under a tree without food and liquids until seeing a vision that provides an answer to his future path integrated into the vision of the person choosing to fast (Vision Quest). The experienced fast for up to 14 days, during which they receive liquids and some fruit once.

The Bahá'ís

Fasting (no food and no liquids) from sunrise to sunset for 19 days in the last month of the Bahá’í calendar.

A fundamental principle in the majority of religious approaches is the recognition of the human body as the abode of the soul, and from this they concluded that in order to strengthen and deepen their spiritual work and practice, the body must be purified and cleansed. It does not matter what the initial goal (medical or spiritual) of the person choosing to fast is, both 2,000 years ago and today, the medical and spiritual fast is a unified and powerful tool for the purification of the body and soul.

Medical fasting in the mirror of history Hippocrates

father of western medicine) used medical fasting as an effective tool for treating diseases. This is how he wrote 2,000 years ago: “Fasting is nature’s surgeon’s knife.” And this is how he explained: “Diseases do not fall on us from the sky. Diseases are the result of sins against nature. When these accumulate to a considerable extent, it seems that the diseases appeared ‘suddenly’ suddenly.” Hippocrates’ method is known as “the healing powers of nature”, according to which the healing powers work and reside naturally in the human body and in order to cure a disease, the best conditions must be created for them to operate. From this principle also developed the idea of using fasting for the purpose of strengthening the healing powers.

Jewish healers

Asaf Harofeh and the Rambam studied the method of Hippocrates, adopted and used it for the same purposes of healing and recovery. The Rambam (Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon) was born in Spain in 1138 and died in 1204. In his reference to the method of treatment through fasts, he wrote in his medical book Paraki Moshe (article 6 The doctor’s examination): “And I know that many of the patients suffered from certain diseases and had great strength and a strong body, and I cured them by preventing them from eating (fasting), for a long time, and by administering medicine at the same time.”
And the others who suffered from the well-known diseases and lacked strength and tended to become weak, were cured from this case by avoiding food until the strength returned, and their strength returned to those patients, and they were completely cured.”

Muslim healers

As Ibn Sinai and his successors. Ibn Sina (Abu Ali Hussein Ibn Abdullah) was born in Persia in 980 and died in 1037. In his lifetime he wrote 450 books, which dealt mainly with medicine and philosophy. Ibn Sina is the Muslim healer who has the most influence on medical customs in Islam. Some claim that the Rambam studied and treated under the inspiration of Ibn Sina’s writings. Ibn Sina’s method of treatment is based on partial fasting in which the patient receives very little food that is all fresh and uncooked. The guiding principle in his method is to create ‘starvation’ of the cells and thereby activate the The healing and regeneration mechanisms of all cells in the body.

Philosophers

Just as Plato and Socrates used ten-day fasts as a tool for spiritual purification, the Greek mathematician Pythagoras is described as someone who used to fast for 40 days for the purposes of clarity of thought and so he also asked his students before starting their studies

Medical and spiritual fasting as a starting point for a new spiritual path

The medical and spiritual fasting that takes place under my guidance is not based on any of the religious methods or philosophical and spiritual schools described here or at all. Fasting is a universal therapeutic and developmental tool that is suitable for most people whose physical condition allows it. Unlike most religious fasts, in my opinion, a medical and spiritual fast is not held for purposes of punishment, torture or atonement for sins. Its general purpose is the release of waste and physiological regeneration, the release of entrenched emotional charges and habits and the taste of new and healthy habits. For some people fasting is the ideal conditions for deepening and strengthening their personal spiritual practice and for some it is a starting point for a new spiritual path. Fasting under my guidance is based on drinking pure water, guidance and accompaniment during all hours of the day to support and fulfill the maximum of each participant’s personal goals.

The safety of intermittent and medical fasting

Based on extensive experience and knowledge gained during millions of water fasts, both short and long, around the world, it can be safely said that a medical and spiritual fast under the supervision and accompaniment of professionals and for a predetermined period of time does not pose a danger to health and life. Based on the accumulated experience and knowledge, it has been proven that the opposite is true, medical and spiritual fasting is a particularly safe and effective medical tool compared to other, innovative and expensive treatments.

The proper and normal physiological process for the production of energy during the fast is the breakdown of the excess fat (and a little protein in the muscles) for the brain and other vital systems.

Fasting becomes dangerous only when these reserves are depleted, then a process begins in which the body breaks down vital tissues (mainly proteins) for the production of energy. From this moment on, every second that passes increases the extent of the damage and the danger to life.

Fasting under the supervision and accompaniment of knowledgeable and experienced facilitators should never reach such a situation or even come close to it. A person of average weight in Western culture must fast for more than 4 weeks and even more until reaching such a stage. Those who fast under supervision and accompaniment for more than 4 consecutive weeks arrive from the beginning with excess fat, which allows this safely. In these cases, I usually break the fast once every two weeks, for psychological and spiritual reasons that are not related to starvation or any medical concern.

Apart from the fact that medical fasting is a safe and effective therapeutic tool under the appropriate conditions, many of those who experienced it experienced additional benefits in that they weaned themselves from addictive substances, were cured of disease states, the drugs and the side effects associated with them. Some of the fasts were even before invasive surgeries and at the end of the fast they were no longer needed.

Metabolism of intermittent fasting and medical fasting First stage (days 1-2)

After the body finishes using the glucose reserves available to it from the last remaining food, there is a phase of breaking down the glycogen reserves in the liver and muscles into glucose which is sufficient on average for another 12-24 hours. When these are depleted, the basal metabolic rate (BMR: Basal Metabolic Rate) gradually slows down, the heart rate becomes slower, the blood pressure decreases significantly and as time passes, almost no energy is invested in the digestive processes.

For most of our lives and during the first two days of the fast, the monosaccharide glucose is used as the main source of energy for the variety of activities and functions of the human body. The most dramatic changes are felt during the first three days of fasting. During them, all the functional systems change and organize themselves according to the source and type of the new energy that is available for them.

Second stage (days 3-10)

The main production of energy is carried out in the process of gluconeogenesis by breaking down compounds that are not carbohydrates. The body breaks down fats (excess triglycerides in the non-essential fat tissues) into glycerol and a little protein (amino acids in the muscles) and produces minimal energy (glucose) from them to maintain the vital functions of the brain, muscles ( the heart), the liver and the other vital systems.

At the beginning of the fast (up to two or three days), a relatively large amount of energy is produced from the breakdown of proteins in the muscles and as the fast lasts (from the third day onwards), very little energy comes from proteins and most of it is produced from the breakdown of fatty acids and ketone bodies (ketosis or ketone production).

During the intermediate phase between the depletion of glucose stores and the full activity of the ketosis process, the body produces some glucose from glycerol (fat) and some glucose from protein from the muscles. During the second day of fasting, an average of 60-84 g of muscle tissue is lost.
From the third day onward, the process of producing energy from the breakdown of fats (ketosis) and the creation of ketones enters maximum output and becomes the main and almost exclusive source of energy for the vital systems in the body.

Starting from this stage, the amount of energy produced from the muscle tissue decreases significantly, except for a small amount that is used in the gluconeogenesis process to produce glucose for the brain mainly. On average about 30 C on the third day and about 14 C on the tenth day.

This evolutionary mechanism is designed to protect against excessive loss of muscle tissue in times when there is not enough food, so that the body’s strength will be preserved and also that vital tissues will not be damaged.

The more biologically important an organ is in the body, the smaller its decrease in fat and muscle mass during fasting.

Two hormones - opposite activity - glucagon and insulin

The glucagon hormone is produced in the alpha cells of the islets of Langerhans in the pancreas, near the beta cells that produce insulin. Its action is the opposite of that of insulin and it is secreted at times when the blood sugar level is lower than desired. Artificial glucagon hormone is given in severe hypoglycemic situations in diabetics. During a fast that lasts about 24 hours or more, the pancreas mainly secretes glucagon for the purposes of maintaining a normal index of blood sugar. Due to a consistent and lower than average sugar level on fasting days (70-90 mg per deciliter of blood), insulin secretion decreases to the minimum possible.

The insulin index and cancer

Positive correlations have been repeatedly found between higher than normal levels of sugar and insulin in the blood and faster proliferation of cancer cells and the increase of inflammatory and multisystemic processes (CRP) encouraging the development of cancer mutations in the cells.

It was found that the higher the index of inflammatory processes in the body (CRP) in cancer patients (colon) before operations to remove the tumor, the higher the chances of finding metastases (in the liver and lymph) and the lower the chances of long-term survival

1.
In a review of a collection of studies, it was found: that the higher the levels of CRP and interleukin 6 (cytokine-IL-6) were in the subjects, the greater the risk of getting cancer of all types

2.
Maintaining normal levels of sugar and insulin in the blood is essential for the prevention of cancerous growth and the initial formation of cells. In the case of an existing tumor, maintaining normal parameters cuts in the lines of nutrition and energy for the cancer cells that thrive through a regular supply of glucose.

The insulin index and the immune system

As the blood sugar and insulin levels are higher than normal, more free radicals are formed in the tissues and more inflammatory mediators (cytokines) are secreted. Together they weaken the immune system. 3 4 A positive correlation of more than six times was found between complications from injuries and mortality from surgeries as the sugar and insulin indices were higher.

The insulin index and chronic diseases

Higher than normal sugar and insulin levels maintained over time predict an increased risk of getting chronic diseases such as: cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, gallbladder diseases and breast cancer. 5

The insulin index and the indices of the inflammatory processes in the body

C-reactive protein, known by its full name CRP, is produced in the liver and is used as an indicator of the multisystem and general inflammatory processes in the body. The protein is secreted from the initial moment of inflammation formation and its level reaches its peak several hours later. Its level higher than the norm for only a few hours or days will confirm that it is an acute inflammation, unlike chronic inflammation where its level remains high for a long and unlimited time. Many positive correlations have been found that can be described between high insulin and sugar indices in the blood and higher than normal CRP indices. A high insulin index encourages the secretion of substances that mediate inflammation, produces multisystem inflammation and encourages worsening of its condition. Positive correlations were found between a high CRP index and an increased risk of getting vascular and heart diseases (heart attacks and strokes), chronic diseases and cancer diseases. In a study that followed overweight adults, it was found that a balanced diet that keeps blood sugar and insulin levels stable reduced the inflammatory process index (CRP) by 48%.6 A positive correlation was found between high insulin and sugar indices and the inflammatory process index (CRP) In elderly and ‘healthy’ women. Any reduction over time in the insulin indices correspondingly reduced the CRP indices. 7 During all the fasting days, insulin secretion is minimal and the sugar indices are kept stably low.

During all the days of the fast, new biochemical conditions are created that allow the suppression of the inflammatory and multisystem conditions in the body, which causes relief in the pain and discomfort often associated with the presence of these processes. Maintaining low insulin and sugar levels during the fast also allows the tumor and cancer cells to stop feeding. These changes in the body’s biochemistry create a rare opportunity for the immune system to return to strength and begin the process of dealing with and recovering from cancer and other chronic diseases.

The insulin index: water fasting and weight loss

It was found that the higher the insulin index, the correspondingly smaller amount of the lipase enzyme responsible for breaking down and producing energy from fats is secreted. Insulin encourages the storage and growth of fat tissue in the body. During the fasting days when the insulin index is lowest, the lipase enzyme is secreted and more active than at any other time. These conditions encourage the breakdown of excess fat tissue in the body and weight loss.

Positive correlations were found between fasting and calorie restriction and strengthening and improving the performance of the immune system. These findings were obtained multiple times in studies carried out on the 8. In recent years, the studies of the accepted standards on the positive effects of fasting in humans are multiplying.

Fasting, chemotherapy and radiotherapy

In subjects who received chemotherapy and radiation treatments, it was found that the longer the duration of the fast (2-6 days) was, the correspondingly the extent of the damage to the healthy cells and the intensity of the side effects associated with them decreased. The study from 2009 and the follow-up study from 2012 found that the positive effects of fasting on the immune system are both in the short term and in the long term. 9 Professor Longo (Longo), one of the researchers concluded as follows: “One of the ways to beat cancer cells should be other than the constant search for The specific drugs that kill them. The most effective way may be to confuse them and suppress them by creating extreme environmental conditions such as fasting, in which only normal cells can adapt and respond quickly.”

Fasting, insulin measures, inflammation and the regression of cancerous tumors

The metabolism during the fasting days is expressed in the reduction of the insulin and blood sugar indices to the minimum possible. A reduction in these indices directly causes a reduction in the indices of the inflammatory processes in the body. In addition, as described at the beginning of the article, the body uses the ketone bodies to produce energy as a substitute for glucose. These changes in metabolism create the optimal conditions for dealing with cancer. It was found that these changes suppress existing cancerous tumors, stop their proliferation and growth and even enable in some cases healing (retreat) and shrinking them until they disappear. 10 11 12

Fasting and weight loss

It was found that a one-time fast improved the chances of those suffering from extreme and moderate overweight to reduce their weight for weeks and months afterwards. 13 It was also found that fasting and calorie restriction may improve diabetes indicators and prevent pancreatic failure. 14

Fasting and medical politics

Many of the alternative medicine practitioners are not ready to accept cancer patients due to a lack of knowledge and confidence in their ability to help. These are precisely the conventional doctors who are ready to treat the cancer patients with great confidence and by means of the new chemical drugs and experimental and advanced technologies. The difference between the two is not necessarily in the effectiveness of the treatment methods, but often in politics and security. Hundreds of thousands of cancer patients die every year when they are treated with innovative and expensive methods and chemotherapy and radiation treatments. A doctor has never been prosecuted for the effectiveness of the methods he used to treat and has never faced criticism for this, these are taken for granted and accepted methods. When one and only cancer patient who abandoned the conventional methods and chose the alternative methods also died of his disease, that’s when the media and the medical establishment find the time to pass their strict and unequivocal criticism. To the joy of the human race, natural medical methods find their way over time and their place in the ranks of the accepted medical establishment. Many more nights will pass until these methods become the default, not as a result of the lack of budgets and time for research, but on the contrary, from the development of the human capacity for compassion at the expense of the financial profitability of all concerned and engaged in the matter.

Fasting, cancer and 'primitive' treatments

In a scientific review called ‘Cancer as a Metabolic Disease’ 15 published in 2010, it was summarized as follows: “The evidence supports the hypothesis that cancer is a metabolic disease. Cancerous tumors can be prevented and suppressed and cause their reduction and regression in size and spread, through prolonged restriction of the amount of calories what is eaten (calorie restriction) and without malnutrition.

Instead of using medicine, it is better to fast for a day” (Hippocrates)

Fasting, life expectancy and quality of life

‘Restriction in the amount of calories eaten and without malnutrition’ (‘calorie restriction’) is a medical definition for a therapeutic method in nutritional medicine that has been studied in the last decades on animals and humans. This ‘method’ has been found to extend life expectancy, improve the metabolic rate substances and reduces the risk of chronic diseases, including cancer. 16 This method is the only medical method that has been proven to date to have the potential to extend life expectancy and significantly improve the quality of life and aging without chronic diseases. This method has been proven to be more effective than any other nutritional or medical treatment method that has been tested -once for the achievement of these goals.

Fasting, overweight and eating disorders

The diet accepted in the West, which is mostly processed and consumed in quantities beyond the physical needs of the body, causes damage and tolerance in different receptors and different biological systems. Drinks, foods, drugs and other substances act and directly affect similar mechanisms in the brain. For example: caffeine, nicotine, alcohol, salt, sugar, protein, fat, marijuana and cocaine. The more caffeine we consume, the more we ‘need’ of it to achieve the same result we got from a smaller amount before. This is ‘tolerance’ and it is also observed in those addicted to nicotine, alcohol, salt, sugar, marijuana and cocaine. Most of the people I spoke with are not aware that food (mainly processed and industrialized) works on the exact same mechanisms, although more moderately, but still strong enough to create addictions and tolerances that encourage eating disorder and self-destructive behaviors. Receptors of neurotransmitters that transmit hormonal and other messages are the ones responsible for the feeling of satiety, peace and relaxation, pleasure and satisfaction from eating and having sex. This is the ‘reward and reinforcement system’ that operates and is responsible for the fact that every ‘positive’ moment in our lives will have continuity and repetition in the future and every ‘negative’ moment will create aversion and avoidance. Through diet and certain lifestyle habits these important receptors become tolerable and we feel unsatisfied even when we eat 2 or 5 times the necessary amount for our body. As is the case with the previously mentioned ‘drugs’, we are forced to eat 5 times more carbohydrates or fats in order to experience the feeling of satisfaction that we used to experience from a much smaller amount. Food, unlike drugs, is necessary and we must consume it for our existence. While brain and hormonal mechanisms related to the feeling of satisfaction and satiety go wrong, the ability to persist in proper nutrition and lifestyle habits becomes more challenging and even impossible for most people. Some eat more at each meal, between meals and still feel unsatisfied, tired and unceasingly hungry. Such a vicious circle leads to eating more and more food, especially of the most nutritionally inferior types. Like a drug, we consume more and more food to create brain stimuli to which we are addicted and without realizing it.

Fasting is not a cure and it is not a magic act. Fasting produces new receptors and increases the sensitivity of existing receptors. Those who experience fasting for the first time tend to report a supreme feeling of energy and sensitivity as they never remember. Receptors in the digestive system and brain become sensitive as never before and feelings such as satiety, satisfaction and vitality from a good meal become an inseparable part of their meals. An amount of food 10 times smaller than what they were used to eating satisfies and satisfies them and unlike before, the feelings of vitality and lightness after the meal are completely different from the feeling of tiredness and heaviness they experienced before.

My experience over the years of observing the fasts has repeatedly shown that the process of physiological purification and renewal together with the processes of emotional and mental purification and renewal create the best conditions for changes in negative habits and the creation of the opportunity for the establishment of new, positive and useful habits, each person according to his will and reason. Those who suffer from eating disorders and overweight are offered new diets and different methods for detoxification and weight loss every day. These methods are often based on short-term results and rapid weight loss. Despite the connection between water fasting and weight loss, the main uniqueness of fasting is not the weight loss, but rather that it enables the transformation of negative physical, mental and emotional habits into positive ones that improve the quality of life.

Fasting, ADHD

Restoring the hormonal balance and improving the sensitivity of the various receptors (mainly dopamine) in the digestive system and brain even improve the achievements and general feeling of those diagnosed as suffering from ADHD.

Summary of a scientific review

A number of clarifications intended to deepen the understanding of the medical and spiritual processes of fasting

– Medical fasting is not a method for detoxifying or purifying the body. Medical fasting is a method to achieve maximum and multi-system rest of the body and the human soul.

– Medical fasting is not a method for detoxifying or purifying the body. Its main activity is in the processes of breaking down excess adipose tissue that stores fat content, waste and toxins (fat soluble) accumulated during the years of life. By breaking down the excess fat and releasing the waste into the blood, the body uses the kidneys (urine), the intestine (feces), the skin and the lungs to get rid of and excrete them out of it.

– Medical fasting is not a method for detoxifying or purifying the body. Medical fasting does not include drinking juices or other herbal/chemical substances for its treatment. Medical fasting is based on resting the digestive organs which allows regeneration of the mucous cells and receptors in the stomach, intestines, kidneys, liver and brain. The regeneration processes are not related in any way to plant or other substances that encourage and cause this, the entire process happens thanks to the new conditions created in each organ of its kind and in the entire body as a whole. (For the first time in most people’s lives and bodies)

– Medical and spiritual fasting is not a specific method for religious or spiritual practice. The participants in the fast succeed in deepening their rest, relaxation and release from mental and emotional tensions. The longer and deeper the fast, the weaker the power of negative habits. A person’s perception of reality changes and the sense of control over his life becomes stronger. This experience encourages the person to utilize his presence and clear thinking for spiritual practice and the creation of new patterns of thought and behavior.

– Medical fasting is not a medicine and is not intended for the treatment of a specific disease. The new biochemical conditions that are created in the body are the fruits of an intelligence of millions of years of evolution. All the systems in the body are coordinated and react according to the new situation. No plant or chemical substance has the ability to create the multi-system conditions and coordination as the body does by itself. Medical fasting is based on the ‘wisdom’, ‘experience’ and desire of the body, less, if at all, on the wisdom, inventions and desires of man.

– Medical and spiritual fasting does not work as a natural medicine and is not based on spiritual healing methods. Herbs, homeopathy, acupuncture, healing, massage, magnets, vitamins and various diets work to treat a specific problem. Fasting is not intended for the treatment of a specific problem. The body itself determines the priorities and the way the energy is distributed to each cell, organ and system. The multi-systemic fasting and rest ‘release’ huge amounts of energy for the body and ‘it’ is the one who chooses where and how to use it.

– Medical fasting ranges from a single day to extended weeks, depending on each person’s personal situation. In no case do I recommend fasting for more than three days without guidance and guidance.

– Medical and spiritual fasting is one method among dozens of additional methods for medicine and personal development. Different methods allow multi-systemic rest and relaxation for the human body and some also incorporate spiritual and emotional practice. In my experience, medical and spiritual fasting combines the biochemical changes in the body with the mental and emotional changes which together generate substantial and long-term synergistic effects.

Summary of the medical benefits of fasting

– Weight loss, 0.5 kg (mostly fat) on average per day, starting from the second day of the fast.

– Excretion of toxins that have accumulated over the years in the fat tissues through the air, skin, water and food.

– Reduction in blood pressure and maintaining balanced values during and after the fast.

– Reduction in sugar, insulin and insulin resistance levels during and after the fast.

– Reduction in the indicators of the inflammatory and multisystemic processes in the body (CRP, cytokines..)

– Reduction in the acidity index of the blood, maintaining basic values during and after the fast.

– Improvement in the flexibility and mobility of the joints, vertebrae and muscles during and after the fast. Longing for physical activity and movement of the body.

– Improving the sensitivity of the dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain.

– Feelings of satiety and satisfaction from food from smaller meals than before and from simple and natural food.

– Improving the sensitivity to the tastes and smells of the natural food. The ability to enjoy and be satisfied with simple food that is low in spices and salt. Instinctive attraction to fresh, nutritious and easier to digest food.

– More efficient and faster metabolism, increased ability to assimilate nutrients from each meal.

– A feeling of lightness and comfort in the stomach after meals.

– Deeper and better sleep, easy and energetic awakening without the need for drinks and stimulants.

– A general feeling of inner and outer vitality, better appearance of the skin, eyes and teeth.

– Mental clarity and substantial improvement in cognitive performance, during and after the fast.

– Gaining control and creating fruitful cooperation between the physical body and the emotional body.

– Instinctive aversion to stimulating and addictive substances, an opportunity to detox and stop using them.

A successful water fast with accompaniment and guidance

Each person can fast alone at home, from a few days to long weeks.

As a way of life, a weekly day of fasting is recommended and its benefits are many to describe for those who persevere in it. For those who choose to fast for a few more days, I recommend doing so with guidance and guidance. Fasting that lasts more than three days produces physiological, emotional and mental reactions that for the inexperienced faster may negatively affect the entire experience. Besides monitoring the physical condition, the emotional support you receive in organized water fasting workshops is very important. The stages of preparation in the days before the fast and especially in the days after its end are particularly important for its success. In an organized fasting workshop, the participants enjoy support and appropriate meals at each stage. This way they can achieve the best results for them.

The advantages of intermittent fasting in a framework and accompaniment

Water fasting takes place under the supervision of index tests which are not invasive and bothersome. Everyone who registers for a fasting workshop must obtain a medical certificate from the family doctor after a comprehensive examination of his condition. The staff and facilitators of the fast are available 24 hours a day for advice, sharing and receiving an immediate response. The medical and spiritual fast that I lead takes place in Kibbutz Toval overlooking the sea and the Miron mountains.
The guest rooms support a pleasant and closer experience to the nature in the human soul and the landscape outside it. The program includes meditations, movement, lectures and water fasting workshops, fasting workshops that support and enrich the entire experience. The program, the conditions and the accompaniment support and enable the maximum exploitation of the potential from the experience, both for natural health and personal development. During the days preceding the fast, a diet is served that prepares the physical body for it.

During the days after the end of the fast, a light diet is served in accordance with the body’s digestive capacity. Gradual return to orderly eating is extremely important to complete the process in the best and most beneficial way.

“Each and every one has an internist in him or her, our role is only to help him in his work.
